by Zachary Foust

Newark has some of the best restaurants in Delaware. During Restaurant Week, local foodies can enjoy some of the area's best and most unique dishes at a discount. But even if you missed Restaurant Week, you'll want to check out these five standout restaurants in Newark.

During Newark Restaurant Week, these places had deals like a three-course dinner for $40. Some places also offered wine or craft beer pairings and upgrades to the main course for a fee to make the experience more complete.

With all of these beautiful foods and offerings, there are bound to be a few that stand out. Here are five restaurants that stood out among the rest during Newark’s Restaurant Week.

1. Iron Hill Brewery

This Main Street brewery's Restaurant Week menu explains which craft beer goes best with each course. A Maryland crab soup with Lodestone Lager, fried Brussels sprouts with Homestead Farmhouse Ale, and a spicy Korean noodle bowl with Philly Favorite IPA are some of the highlights.

Iron Hill Brewery is a Newark staple for a good reason. They serve up delicious craft beers and elevated pub fare. Try their famous pretzel sticks and a pint of their seasonal brew for a perfect pairing if you get the chance.

2. Hamilton's on Main

During Restaurant Week, they served amazing dishes like whipped ricotta with focaccia, shrimp linguini in a lemon cream sauce, a burger with bacon jam and truffle fries, and more. On request, you can also get a wine pairing for $15 and a filet of salmon for $20. For dessert, you could have chocolate cheesecake or bread pudding.

Also, this cozy farm-to-table spot is known for its fresh and local ingredients. The menu changes seasonally, but you can always expect to find delicious and creative dishes.

3. Caffe Gelato

This Italian café and gelato shop is a must-visit for dessert lovers. Indulge in a scoop (or two!) of their homemade gelato in flavors like hazelnut and salted caramel.

During Restaurant Week, a brandied lobster chowder or whipped ricotta and focaccia is the best way to start at Caffe Gelato. They also served scallops seared in a pan or ricotta gnocchi with butternut squash and mushrooms in a sage-brown butter sauce for the second course during restaurant week.

As a main course, they served grilled center-cut filet mignon or lobster ravioli made in-house. Add one or two scoops of hand-made gelato to finish off your Caffe Gelato experience.

4. Taverna Rustic Italian

For Restaurant Week, they started with Italian wedding soup or a Caesar salad with garlic parmesan croutons made in the restaurant. They also served spicy rigatoni, chicken marsala, and linguini Alfredo for an entree. For dessert, locals indulged in chocolate or vanilla gelato.

This family-owned spot serves up authentic and comforting Italian dishes. Try the spaghetti carbonara or the eggplant parmesan for a taste of Italy in Newark.

5. Home Grown Café

During Restaurant Week, there are pear and ricotta ravioli and a fennel and apple salad as starters. Entrees range from dry-aged beef to za'atar-roasted cauliflower, a vegan choice. For dessert, vegans, vegetarians, and people who can't eat gluten can choose vegan cheesecake or a honey-bourbon poached pear.

This farm-to-table restaurant only uses ingredients from nearby farms to make tasty and healthy meals. Try the mushroom and leek risotto or the pan-seared salmon for a taste of Delaware's freshest produce.
