1. Skiing

First of all, let's discuss skiing. If you like spending time on the slopes, you'll be happy to learn that Delaware is home to various ski resorts from which to select.

Ski Big Bear and White Clay Creek Country Club are popular choices. Each lodge has an extensive terrain park with a wide range of slopes suitable for skiers and snowboarders of all abilities.

After a long day of hiking or skiing, nothing beats warming up with a cup of cocoa in front of the fireplace. Both resorts have a variety of lodges and cozy cabins available. So visitors can get the whole ski experience with plenty of amenities to make their stay more comfortable.

2. Nature Hiking

However, other forms of outdoor recreation are available in Delaware throughout the winter months besides skiing. The state is home to a variety of nature preserves and state parks that are ideal for outdoor excursions throughout the winter months.

Visitors can see the state's beauty and winter wildlife on hiking trails, biking trails, and in nature preserves. Take the time to visit Cape Henlopen State Park or the Killens State Pond, and you’ll know what we mean. Just remember to dress in layers and bring some hot chocolate to stay warm.

3. Village Strolling

Suppose you'd instead do something a little less strenuous. In that case, you might try walking around one of the numerous quaint towns or villages found in Delaware. These towns and villages provide a unique way to explore the state's history, culture, and traditions.

Moreover, you can even stumble upon some of Delaware’s best-preserved landmarks and architecture, such as the New Castle Court House or the Old State House in Dover. Along the way, you will experience a variety of shops, restaurants, and even art galleries that are home to some of Delaware’s finest artists.

And don’t get us started with the streets of Milford. It’s just gorgeous during winter.

4. Skating

Skating over frozen bodies of water is another enjoyable activity to keep active during the colder months in Delaware. You can glide over the ice at one of the many ice skating rinks throughout the state, regardless of whether you are an experienced skater or are just beginning to learn the sport.

Many skating rinks offer classes for those just getting started. Try checking out the Fred Rust Ice Arena in Newark or the Center Ice Rink in Harrington. These classes will allow you to learn from professional instructors who can help you safely and effectively enjoy your time on the ice.

5. Ice fishing

If you're in the mood for something fascinating, you should try ice fishing. Ice fishing involves using specialized equipment to catch fish while on the ice. You can try this at spots like Bombay Hook. The temperature may be uncomfortable, but the feeling of fulfillment that comes with landing a fish makes it all worthwhile.

Final Thoughts

Don't spend the whole winter cooped up indoors because of the chilly weather. Get out there and take advantage of all that Delaware has to offer. In the First State, there is plenty of opportunities to engage in physical activity while still having a good time.

We mentioned some examples, including skiing, snowboarding, hiking, and ice skating. Whatever you choose, you'll never go wrong with these activities.

Best wishes on your winter travels!
